It is a challenging time to be a student with university expectations set very high. As undergraduate students, we are expected to learn and utilize a lot of information from different courses. Yet, we weren’t taught how to learn. Some students are lucky enough to find learning strategies that work for them. Others start their undergraduate studies without those vital skills.

The Academic Success Centre is here to help

We have an exciting new series to announce that will help you fill that gap. The Peer Coaching team will share a Blog Post with you every week this term based on strategies from the book, “Teach Yourself How to Learn: Strategies You Can Use to Ace Any Course at Any Level,” by Dr. Saundra Yancy McGuire, with Stephanie McGuire. The Peer Coaches are Ryerson students, themselves.

In conjunction with sharing learning strategies, the Peer Coaches will also share their own personal learning experiences to remind you that you are not alone, and that we’re in the same boat, trying to navigate the complexities of online school, juggling many assignments, extracurricular activities and work.

This book is 100 pages that will change the way you think about learning. Tested by thousands of Dr. McGuire’s students and by our Peer Academic Coaches, these strategies work.

Don’t have time to read another book? Not a worry! Our challenge to you is to follow our weekly posts and try the strategies out for yourself. You will be amazed by the difference they will make. By following along the series and actively employing the new study strategies, every student can succeed in their semester. Whether you’re an A student, or a probationary student – there’s something for everyone!

You’re not alone

We know that it’s very easy to start with great energy, but run out of fuel as the term progresses and courses or assignments become more demanding and challenging. Meeting regularly with a Peer Coach is a great way to stay motivated throughout the academic term. Try out new learning strategies, and see the difference for yourself! Join us to take your learning to the next level!
